Mincon has upped production capacity with the addition of new equipment at our Mincon Carbide factory in Sheffield, UK. This upgrade allows the facility to manufacture even more of our leading grades of tungsten carbide, as used in Mincon drilling products.
This is the latest in a series of capacity upgrades since 2019, all of which have allowed the Sheffield factory to produce high-quality tungsten carbide inserts while meeting the growing demand of Mincon as well as third-party carbide customers.
Working in tandem with the suppliers, the maintenance team at Mincon Carbide was able to get the latest upgrades installed, commissioned, and operational in a mere ten days — a remarkable pace given the complexity of the work involved.
With a single furnace, the factory was able to manufacture enough carbide inserts to fit 13,000 4” drill bits. The addition of the new furnace and other capacity investments will enable the factory to substantially expand the amount of carbide inserts it can produce, ultimately increasing the number of drill bits Mincon can supply to customers.
