• New 4” hammer is latest addition to MP-series hammer family
  • Latest Mincon innovations allow for optimised energy transfer and airflow
  • Testing shows up to 22% faster drilling with up to 24% lower fuel usage

Shannon, Ireland, 13 May 2025 – Mincon Group is pleased to announce the market launch of the MP40-MC, a new addition to its acclaimed MP-series range of high-performance DTH hammers. This new four-inch hammer combines all the innovations of Mincon’s next-generation hammer design with the proven advantages of its MC shank, resulting in a tool that delivers exceptional power, speed, and efficiency.

Designed and manufactured in-house at the company’s headquarters in Shannon, Ireland, the MP40-MC benefits from Mincon’s precision processes that ensure optimal quality and reliability in the toughest drilling conditions.

Engineering excellence

The MP40-MC is based on the MP-series platform, which represents the latest evolution of Mincon’s DTH hammer range. All hammers in this range are designed with modular components, while the internal layout is optimised to house a larger, heavier piston, giving significantly greater impact energy at the rock face.

The MP40-MC combines this piston-driven power with the Mincon MC shank, a proprietary design that uses a shorter, wider shank that yields several key benefits:

  • Improved energy transfer from piston to bit, resulting in faster penetration rates
  • Lower air consumption, thanks to the foot-valveless design of the MC shank
  • Enhanced durability, with a reduced risk of failure
  • Greater overall efficiency, reducing fuel costs and increasing productivity

Real-world results

In field tests conducted by a geothermal drilling customer in Finland, the MP40-MC demonstrated its capabilities in a series of 250-metre boreholes. During these operations, the hammer achieved an average fuel saving of 24%, proving that performance gains can go hand-in-hand with efficiency improvements. The same tests also recorded a 22% increase in penetration rate compared to the benchmark four-inch hammer previously used on-site, confirming the MP40-MC’s ability to drill faster while consuming less fuel.

“The MP40-MC is our new performance and efficiency benchmark for four-inch class hammers. Our engineers have drawn on decades of expertise as well as customer feedback from drill sites to deliver a design that lives up to Mincon’s goal of delivering performance without sacrificing efficiency. For our customers, the benefits are plain: drill faster and lower costs.”

– Joe Purcell, CEO, Mincon Group
